Mabamba

Mabamba Bay

Mabamba Bay Wetland, situated approximately 36 kilometers southwest of Kampala on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, is a premier birdwatching destination in Uganda. Recognized as a Ramsar site and Important Bird Area, it hosts over 300 bird species, including the elusive Shoebill Stork, Papyrus Gonolek, and Blue Swallow.

Birding in Mabamba is conducted via guided canoe tours through papyrus-lined channels, offering close encounters with diverse avian life in their natural wetland habitat. Local guides, often expert birders themselves, navigate these waterways, enhancing the experience with their knowledge of the ecosystem.

Visitors can expect sightings of various species such as herons, kingfishers, and migratory birds, making Mabamba a must-visit spot for both casual nature lovers and serious birding enthusiasts. The wetland’s proximity to Entebbe and Kampala makes it an accessible and rewarding day trip for those interested in Uganda’s rich birdlife.
